- PK End of Year Concert
Every second year the Pikkewyntjies staff and the children perform the story of the birth of Jesus. Although it’s the same story, the show is different every time except that the children always show the careful training they have had, speaking loudly and giving the audience time to laugh at the jokes. It isn’t a dull, serious performance although the purpose is to remind the children - and the parents - that Christmas isn’t just about getting a present and having something special to eat.
Zaan designs the costumes and makes most of them because dressing up adds greatly to the children’s pleasure in performing. Even the smallest of the angels is so taken up with how she looks she forgets to be shy of walking on stage.
The hall which the NG Kerk so kindly lends to the school was once again packed last year with Moms and Dads and Grandparents and siblings, most of whom were them
It was lovely to see how proud and pleased the children were.

Just as the concert is performed every December - even when covid made it impossible to do so in the hall - so every year, in the last week of school, there are two special days.
There is a day of fun when a slippery slide is set up in the playground and the whole school takes turns to slither up and down in the bubbles, shrieking and laughing with joy. Sometimes one or other of the teachers sportingly takes a turn but it’s a smoother ride for a very small body. Most of the junior class of Pikkewyntjies aren’t keen to join the others on the slide, they prefer the unusual experience of walking in a pool - full of bubbles nogal.

Afterwards there is a special chicken dinner for the Pikkewyntjies, with pudding to follow. This is a very popular end to a very popular day on the school calendar.
